Business Licenses & Permits

The State of North Carolina has no single generic business license that will ensure compliance with all requirements. Some businesses may be subject to several state requirements while others may not be subject to any. There are over 700 regulatory, state issued and occupational licenses and permits. In addition, a local license may be required for your business.

If you are starting a business that may require an occupational license, please contact your board. Click here for a directory of all occupational boards in North Carolina and their contact information.

*The Directory of State Business Licenses and Permits is not intended and should not be used as a means to identify all of your State license and permit requirements.  The only assurance for full accuracy is a consultation with one of our Business Counselors*

Our BLNC counselors will give you detailed State license information as well as the name and contact information to city, county and federal governments.  Call 1-800-228-8443 -or- 919-447-7828, Monday through Friday for your customized consultation specific to your business.
