The University of North Carolina System helps promote entrepreneurship in many ways. One of those ways is to help get a product or technology from academia to the market. The system's Technology Transfer/Outreach programs provide resources for innovative faculty, students and staff. Programs include:

• East Carolina University Office of Technology Transfer, Greenville
• East Carolina University - Center for Innovation in Technology & Engineering (CITE) was created to encourage regional economic growth by engaging faculty in the regional business and industrial environment. With over 90 faculty members, the College of Technology and Computer Science and the CITE program have a large resource base to provide continuous improvement solutions for nearly any regional business or industry.
• N.C. State University Office of Technology Transfer, Raleigh
• N.C. Central University's Office of Sponsored Research, Programs & Technology Transfer, Durham
• Technology Outreach at Nussbaum, Greensboro. TON is a partnership among N.C. A&T State University, UNC-Greensboro and the Nussbaum Center for Entrepreneurship, a small business incubator in Greensboro. TON provides confidential intellectual property and marketing research for independent innovators and small businesses, primarily in the Piedmont but also statewide.
