The N.C. Department of Commerce is the state's leading economic-development agency, working with local, regional, national and international companies. The department’s mission is to improve the economic well-being and quality of life for all North Carolinians.

The Commerce Department has regional offices in the seven economic development regions.  The regional offices provide recruiting, existing industry and other support to industries.

The ESC provides valuable services both for employers and for job seekers. Business Services include assistance with employee recruitment, unemployment insurance issues and Trade Adjustment Assistance, quarterly tax and wage reports and labor market statistics.

The Center supports biotechnology research, business and education statewide. Business services include Workforce Development programs, Business & Technology Development and Business Loans.

North Carolina's extensive community college system supports development of new businesses and growth of existing businesses; and the system's Business Support Services and Customized Training Program.
